Some people say that there’s no such thing as a selfless act. Sometimes people believe that anything we do to help another person, we get something in return. Sad but true! However, not all people do this just for their selfish intentions but few do this to feel good about themselves and show that they care.

Not all people are kind-hearted. Some people show concern just for the sake of doing it. I don’t like that. They show they care because they want to be recognized. I’m used to handling a burden of responsibility. I take care of almost everybody without expecting any return. I give because I want to not because I want to have something back.

When you do a favor and expect to be returned, then you are doing business not kindness. Simple things become complicated when you hope too much. The truth is I like to help people. It makes me feel good to give. I don’t do it in order to get anything back. I just believe that the more you give, the more you receive. It’s human nature to want to repay. But honestly, it’s because giving is a gift.

If you do, it will eventually come back to you, even when that’s not your intention. And when it doesn’t, you get the satisfaction of helping someone, which is my experience. Although modesty aside, we all have bills to pay and many of us have mouths to feed especially me who is a single mom; but when it comes to helping, I am very happy just by doing that. I do not feel stingy with it, the world has a way of rewarding such generosity.

You can’t help everyone. But helping someone because you care and don’t concern yourself over the results, make you satisfied. People are usually good by nature. They want to help other people whenever they can. Some will even go beyond their means to help someone in need if they’ve been deeply touched by the circumstances of the needy one.

When you do good, you need to be sincere. You have to be honest with yourself. Never focus on whatsoever about you at all. You put that needy person before you. Selfishness destroys the greatness of an action. You may not want to get money or other tangible benefits from your good deed but wishing for recognition of what you’ve done is still expecting something in return; which is not right.

Reality is, it’s not about how big the favor was, it can be the smallest thing ever. You do things because you want to do them not because of any pressure or of any sort. Every time you do something, no matter how small or unimportant it may seem, and never think what you’re going to get in return, good deeds magnify and comes back to you when you least expect them.

This has nothing to do with writing, I know, and it isn’t necessarily the ‘fun’ part of producing a book for sale. However, this is something that HAS TO BE DONE BEFORE PUBLISHING. If not, you are just another fish in the sea… and one which is being quickly circled by sharks!

A smart seller is also someone who is technologically savvy. They must be familiar with all those fancy marketing tools and techniques, and stay updated on the latest developments in this field. To become familiar with them, an author must, therefore, acquire some specific knowledge. How do you set up a blog? What’s SEO? How do you use social media to sell more books? What’s the deal with Twitter? Are promotional sites any good? Why does a book need a good video?

So many questions, we know. You’d better learn the answers to them for yourself if you are in any way serious about self-publishing, though, as the answers to these questions will result in you seeing a huge difference in your ranking and sales figures. The alternative, of course, involves you hiring a marketing professional, just like you hired your editor. Publishing is not a process of getting your book on Amazon’s shelf. It’s A BUSINESS, and one which requires a business-like approach.

Another point: what about inbound sales? Can you really focus on your buyer’s needs and goals? How do you sell the way prospects buy? Again, more questions than any serious Amazon seller need to consider, if they want their product to get anywhere!

Imagine your book standing out, even without a strong advertising budget, lead by data-driven sales strategy… it’s not impossible, not by any stretch.

I have a real thing for old books. After all, some books simply failed to connect to readers, but many books never had the chance to connect. I always say: it’s never a lost game, so long as you believe in your book. If you want to bring your book back into the game, then have some faith, for there’s no doubt that it really can be done!

In the past you could simply optimize your blog for higher search engine ranking and advertise with pay per click keywords for getting all the traffic you could handle. Today that’s all changed. SEO and PPC advertising isn’t as easy. It’s much more competitive and costly. And if you’ve suffered a loss in traffic due to search engine changes, it’s discouraging.

Finding success as a blogger, or any online venture for that matter, is easier if you’re connecting socially and building relationships. You’re more likely to buy my widget if I’m someone you are familiar with and trust.

Of course basic Search engine optimization is still important and advertising can certainly boost traffic, but building connections and relationships aren’t fleeting, they’re not vulnerable to search engine changes and unlike advertising, it won’t cost you a thing.

2. Give Readers What They Want to Know.

This is where great content makes all the difference. Great content is what your target audience wants to read. But how do you know what they want to read?

Here are 3 ways to find out.

  1. Use social media. You can ask questions on Twitter or Facebook which is easy to do but I like to join topic groups and ask questions there. My favorites are Linked and Google groups.
  2. Create a survey. Create a simple survey using surveymonkey. Send your email list the survey or if you don’t have a list, add the survey link to your blog’s sidebar. Encourage visitors to take the survey by offering them a free gift for participating.
  3. Forums. Join a niche forum and ask for reader opinions or feedback. You can also just lurk around and see what questions people are asking.

If content demands are discouraging you, use a ghostwriter or buy private label content and customize it. You can also use these tips for creating content quickly and easily.

  • Ask a question on Twitter or Facebook and publish the responses you get
  • Repurpose content for guest posts or article directories
  • From the social contacts you’ve made reach out and request guest bloggers
  • Publish a post on the 10 best blog posts, 10 best bloggers, 10 best tips, etc.
  • Make a quick video or audio

3. Research Your Keywords With Care.

People find your blog with keywords, so you must use the keywords your visitors are using to find your content. And of course the more searches a keyword phrase gets, the better. But your keywords must also be relevant to what your post is about.

To start, use a good keyword tool. If you’re on a budget Google’s Keyword tool will work fine. Once you settle on the best keyword phrase for your post, include it in each of these areas of your page.

  • Your post title
  • Post Description
  • Post Heading and at least one sub heading
  • Alt Text for images
  • Page name and path, “http://www.yoursite.com/keyword”
  • Post content (use the keyword phrase and at least once, as well as 2 or 3 variations of the phrase)

4. Be a Headline Master.

Your post headlines are significant to the success of your blog. They’re what attract readers to your post. Your headline should contain your keyword phrase, as mentioned in # 3 but you’ll also want your headline to be magnetic enough to lure a reader in.

Using numbers in your headline works very well, for example ‘7 easy dieting tips’. Also use descriptive words like, easy, fast, shocking, useful, etc. where appropriate. To lure a reader in, include an irresistible benefit. For instance, ‘7 Easy Dieting Tips for Fewer Cravings’.

5. Successful Bloggers are Authentic.

You’re human so be human to your readers. Don’t be afraid to share your challenges and mistakes as well as your dreams and accomplishments. Your readers want to learn from you but they also want to feel they share a commonality and sometimes your commonalities may not be things you’re so proud of, but that vulnerability makes you human and people can identify with that.

6. Successful Blogs are Interactive.

Readers look for blogs that are highly interactive. No one wants to connect with a blog that’s hearing crickets. Successful bloggers often ask questions, they stir up debate and share unusual ideas that are interesting and generate thought.

It is impossible to share all the traffic tactics I have discovered in a single post, for now we will take a look at leveraging Google Traffic with the Hashtag. For the purpose of this demonstration you want to click on “Trending on Twitter”. You will the results to the Upward or Downward trending Hashtags, but more importantly the Most Popular Hashtags. Please base your selection of Hashtags not only on your profitable niche, but also the keywords you wish to rank for.

So now you know how to obtain the most popular Hashtags, great. Now what, where and how can you use them to focus on Google? All you will need is your free Google Account.

Once inside your Google+ Profile you will see two options which you want to focus on next. They are “Collections” and “Communities”, which are pretty much like Facebook Pages and Groups. A collection is like having a Page, and the Community will mirror a Group. Just to give you a basic idea of the difference between the two.

Creating a Google Collection

This is done by simply clicking on “Collections”, and then easily create a Collection. But similar to a blog or website, you want your title and content to target all 3 categories of Keywords you wish to target. Short Tail, Long Tail and Anchor Text.

Now your Graphic content is equally important, if not even more so because you wish to attract attention. Colour plays a very important role when it comes to conversion… just a thought. But also you want to share royalty free images, so you don’t step on any toes.

There are several sites that will provide you with high-definition images within just about any niche you can think of. You simply enter “Royalty Free Images” into your web browser, and check out the sites on the search result page. Take your time and find which sites will provide you with exactly what you are looking for based on your profitable niche.

Now a great idea would be creating a collection focusing on something like your blog, so you share your blog content and expertise within the collection. Never share Any Affiliate Links Anywhere on the Internet, a professional post will always present a link to a dedicated domain like a blog or website. Your aim is to get those visitors to your own personal site, and get recognized as a Professional.

Once your collection is created, you are ready to create your first Community too. But don’t post anything yet, we will get to that. For now you just want to create One Collection and One Community, so we can work from there.

Creating a Google Community

Pretty much exactly the same as creating a collection, but bear in mind the similarity to a Facebook Group. Again you must target your keywords in your Community Title.

Once you have successfully created both your sites, it’s now time to add the “Secret Sauce” by adding your first posts. But don’t just flood your profiles with random posts, be objective and target your audience.

While using the Hashtags you selected, you will now need interesting and useful content to populate your Collection and Community. You need to inspire an audience’s curiosity to want to know more, once that happens you will gain followers automatically. And when targeting is done correctly you will gain followers who are actually interested in your content and solutions.

Once you have populated your Collection and Community with keyword rich content and the Hashtag, you also want to share your posts to all your social profiles. Google allows you to share your posts to your Google+ Profile, Facebook and Twitter or even copy the post link should you wish to present it elsewhere.

A Collection and Community is like a sub-domain within Google, so when your posts show up on the first search result to a certain keyword then those visitors are ultimately directed to your blog or website. Remember, always try to share posts with links to your personal domains like blogs and websites, your affiliate offers should be promoted only there.

There is only one other place you should promote cloaked affiliate links and that is to your own email list subscribers, but that is an entire eBook on its own.

Remember that this is a traffic tactic and not a magic button, you need to sacrifice the time to master the sequence. This includes establishing the best dates and times to post that will result in the best conversion. This article is like a structure for you to build from.

The Five Steps of Niche Marketing are?

1. Divide your “large” market into smaller market segments

1. Segment Your Market

Market segmentation has been around for a long time. You may even have already carried out some segmentation of your marketplace by deciding to focus your attention on a particular geographical area or socio-economic group (e.g. small businesses, young professionals, industry type etc.).

For example, the manufacturer we talked about earlier decided that it would be better to focus on “family leisure boats” as a niche market rather than “high performance boats” because it had a lot of knowledge and experience of the types of engines used in leisure boats.

So, look for the business niche areas within each segment and find niches where you think your product will do well. Spend as much time on this as you can.

It’s not always easy to find niches in an existing market or to identify new winning niches in which to create a business. But fortunately there are a lot of online resources to help – local business directories, Internet directories, websites with information on trends and fashions. Also, large retail sites like Amazon and eBay provide information on market sectors and niches in which lots of their products and services are being sold.

In addition to using the Internet you may need to carry out some research on the telephone and in your local library, especially if your business is focused more on the local community rather than on the larger “global Internet” market.

3. Research Your Niche Areas

Once you have a list of niche markets in which you are reasonably confident you will need to estimate the size and business potential of each one. It’s easy to leave this step out, but if you do you could discover after spending a lot of money and doing a lot of work that you are trying to develop business in a niche which isn’t commercially viable.

Research each niche to find out about:

a) Likely level of customer demand

b) Commerciality (i.e. can you make money out of it?)

You can find out about global and local competition in your chosen niches by using the Google Search Engine’s “Advanced Search” feature.

Use your keyword phrases in the search engine to get information about the volume of potential competition. Investigate the search results on the first few pages. These are the main competitors you’ll need to try and outmanoeuvre. If you are focused on local marketing use the advanced search feature to include other appropriate keywords such as your geographic location (e.g. “Oxford”).

When you are carrying out your research work, don’t forget that many of the companies that show up as competitors may not really be serious competition for you because although they are selling products to your niche, they might not be treating it as a specialist area.

If you were to apply online to GE for this job, your resume would be scanned by software looking specifically for these keywords. If your resume lacks most, some or all of these sales keywords, you are at a competitive disadvantage – even if you’re qualified for the position.

Looking Elsewhere for Sales Keywords

Even if you’re not applying to a specific job opening, you can still use job ads and online postings for keyword ideas to improve the visibility of your resume to computer eyes. Consider the following sources for more ideas…

  1. Read newsletters and trade magazines dedicated to your industry or discipline.
  2. Have a conversation with recruiters specializing in your industry or profession.
  3. Consult with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook. You can find a copy at most libraries and online.

5 Tips to Improve Website Visibility for Better Google Ranking

Most people who start building their first website believe that as soon as their website would go online, there would be a flood of people visiting it and bringing new business to them. In reality, this does not happen like this. A new website is just like a shop in a big desert. No website is by default visible to anyone. All our Search Engine Optimization efforts have only one purpose and that is to increase the website visibility. It is therefore at the core of SEO. However, first, we should understand what website visibility is. Even before we talk about how visible is a website to search engines, we should note how people interact with search engines. They type certain keywords in the search box and the search engine presents the results page called Search Engine Results Page (SERP). The domains shown higher on SERP are more visible than the ones below. It shows a relationship between website visibility and keywords. Now we can define it.

What is Website Visibility

Website visibility is calculated in percentage AND with reference to certain keywords. There is no such thing as perfect visibility. Whenever we say visibility it means visibility for a “set of keywords”. So, for example if we are targeting 100 keywords, our domain visibility would be based on those 100 keywords. If our website has a visibility score of 10%, it would mean there is a 10% chance that someone would click on our website if the person types one of those target keywords. The SEO tools which tell a visibility score such as SEMrush or SEO Profiler, ask you to enter the keywords for which you want to know your visibility. The selection of the keywords is therefore crucial for the website visibility score you would get. If you poorly chose the keywords which are less competitive and of less value to your business, you might get a higher visibility score. However, this higher visibility score would not be so fruitful for the business. Now I assume that you have selected the profitable keywords after a proper research and your visibility score is perfectly valid then this is the time to discuss how can we improve the visibility. Here are the five actionable strategies:

1. Remove Errors and Mistake from Your Website

This activity is also called “technical SEO”. Search engine hate websites with errors such as broken links. The first thing you should do is to remove all errors. You can find errors by using tools such as screaming frog or deep crawl. Not only the errors but also the slow websites cannot get good Google ranking. GTmetrix is a free tool which not only tells the speed of your site but also suggests how you can improve it. Use this tool and act accordingly. Also, not following Google guidelines would be a big mistake. Some people argue that Google is not a law. That is correct but because you are relying on Google to get the traffic, you must follow their SEO guidelines or you will be penalized.

2. Put High-Value Contents

If you want to make search engines happy, then make your website readers satisfied with some valuable and well-researched contents. Since to get higher Google ranking, you are competing many others in your niche, you have to beat them with the depth and value of your contents. Do not just re-phrase the contents from other websites. Create your contents and publish regularly. Consider contents as the blood of the body of your website. When writing contents, focus on your audience. But for this, you have to do some hard work. Do the following:

i. Think about your target customers. Who are they what are their problems and issues. Most website owners have an only vague concept of their clients. They think of just some random people interested in their products. You should clearly and precisely define your target clients and build a “customer persona” for your business. Only then you can target them in your campaigns.

ii. Go to Yahoo Answers, Quora and other similar websites and try to find out what questions, people are asking in your niche. These are their pain points and you have to address the answers to these issues in your contents.

iii. Now it is time to do some keyword research. First you should write down your objectives and business goals. Then find some profitable keywords using not only Google Keyword Planner but also some other tools. If you cannot afford a paid subscription, there are plenty out there which are free. This topic has been discussed elsewhere and also on my YouTube channel, so I leave it there. After you find the keywords, you should arrange them in groups and make a map of keywords to your website. Now it is time to write some contents.

iv. Before you start writing using the tool called Buzzsumo to get an idea of what titles are getting backlinks and social shares. Make your title and get some ideas of subheadings.

3. Link Building

Try to understand what is link building and how it differs from spamming. A backlink is a link pointing to your website from another site. You do not need thousands of backlinks as many people try to promote. You only need few but high-quality backlinks. The most important thing about backlinks is relevancy. These links should be coming from relevant websites. Now the point to note here is that the relevant websites are most of the time your competitors. However, if you try, you would find few highly relevant websites which are not your competitors. Do not just focus on websites with very high domain authority. If you do not know what a domain authority is, use two of your free daily searches on Moz website and find out the domain authority and page authority of any internet site. Do not get frustrated, link-building is a slow process and increasing the visibility of your website is a long term commitment. Therefore, just proceed forward, slow and steady, bit-by-bit. Also, try to earn links with your contents as mentioned above.

4. Social Media Engagement

Everyone knows that social media is important to get your website visible. However, there are some very critical points you should take note of and I will try to put only a short mention of those here in this post. It is because every single one of them needs further explanation and I will cover this in my future posts. Some of the important points are the following:

i. For a continuous visibility and traffic to your website, you need a constant engagement with your audience and not just occasional interaction. For this you need first to figure out what types of contents are needed for that. Also, there are certain engagement metrics in Google analytics which you must understand and monitor. Videos are also good for engagement. If you are shy of the camera, not a problem! Just screen capture videos are enough for engagement. These are three points and the rest will be covered in a separate post with an explanation to these three.

ii. If you find social media overwhelming, then use the tools such as coschedule or hootsuite.

iii. The last but not least is trying to find the “hottest” social media and focus on that. People have gained a lot of visibility, traffic and money from Facebook and LinkedIn in good times. However, now, in my opinion these two are dead dogs for small businesses until you pay them a huge sum of money. However, the Facebook advertisement is still cheap and if you know how to make a good custom or lookalike audience for Facebook ads then you can try that and tweak that until you get results.

5. Promote Your Business Website Locally and outside of online media.

There are still a huge number of people who prefer paper format. There are many local magazines out there which have a large circulation and advertising there could be on a budget or even free. You can talk to your council or local clubs and you might be able to get a free advertisement or at a nominal price.
